ആദ്യ കാലങ്ങളില്‍ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറിന്റെ ഉപയോഗം ശാസ്ത്ര സാങ്കേതിക വിദ്യയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ട മേഖലകളില്‍ മാത്രമായിരുന്നു. അതുകൊണ്ട് തന്നെ അക്കാലത്ത് ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് അല്ലാതെ മറ്റൊരു ഭാഷ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറുകളില്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നില്ല. കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറുകളില്‍ മറ്റു ഭാഷകളുടെ ഉപയോഗത്തിന്റെ സാദ്ധ്യതകളെക്കുറിച്ച് ഗവേഷണങ്ങള്‍ വരുന്നത് അച്ചടി മേഖലയില്‍ കമ്പ്യൂട്ടറുകള്‍ ഉപയോഗിക്കാന്‍ തുടങ്ങിയതോടു കൂടിയാണ്.

e-Governance : The Definition

e-Governance is a word which can be seen frequently in news papers now a days. Most of the institutions, no matter it is government of non-government are talking about e-Governance. The word is being used improperly. e-Governance is not the mere act of computerisation. It is a holistic concept with broad purview, consisting of a blend of entirely different but closely related knowledge areas.

The broad definition of e-Governance is that 'it is the application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in governance'. The foundation stone of e-Governance is the concept of good governance. e-Governance is a means to achieve good governance.

The journey searching knowledge in e-Governance starts from nothing but the concept of governance. Governance is the act of governing.
